The Project Manager/Link Worker

To ensure the AoP programme runs successfully it is important to have at least one or two persons to oversee the planning and implementation of the AoP programme.

There are numerous tasks involved in executing an AoP programme in the municipality or region. Certain tasks involve strategic competencies in setting up the AoP organisational framework, such as gaining an overview of policy/strategy areas, in addition to planning and facilitating meetings and workshops with different stakeholders. These tasks require a person with project management skills, for example a project manager.

Other tasks involve managing AoP programmes practical and day-to-day managing skills, which require coordination between all aspects of the programme, from the recruiting phase to the organising and launching of the programme’s activities. This requires ongoing communication with referral channels, culture and arts facilitators and supporting the participants throughout the programme. These tasks are the responsibility of a link worker. You can find a brief description of different types of link workers here.

In the case where the project manager and the link worker are the same person, it is often the term link worker rather than project manager that is applied. Therefore, it is the link worker who simultaneously is responsible for both the practical aspects of implementing the AoP programme. Thus he/she should be a member of the working group and attend all steering group meeting regarding the AoP programme’s progress and plans for the sustainability of the programme after the project period.
